An Unemployed Father
Jesus worked for Pacific Steel in Berkeley, CA for the past 14 years. He's had private insurance for all of that time. For the past 8 years he has been filtering his blood every evening after work. He did everything he was supposed to do, he filled out the forms and put himself on the donor list. Everything he does he's done for his family. His situation doesn't just affect him, but also his wife and daughter. Unfortunately an immigration audit led to Jesus' termination this month. Now with no job, private insurance coming to an end, the family's situation is uncertain.
Daily Dialysis
The life saving dialysis has kept Jesus going for almost 8 years! The statistical life expectancy for someone on dialysis is 6 years. Jesus has beat the odds with a combination of in home blood cleansing and visits to a dialysis clinic. He desperately needs a new kidney. He has a donor, he has insurance, he just doesn't have a green card. Patients over politics has a real meaning here - Jesus and his family are not an 'excersise in policy' or a 'test case' - these are real people, with real needs - no truer since of the phrase "life and death". Without a kidney, Jesus will die, leaving his wife to care for their 3 year old daughter on her own.
